EBooks. MagicCatalog.zip.Thing 20 Free e-books
It's been a while since I did any of 23 things and although I followed my notes - nothing seemed to happen. I got the screen print on to here, but I shall have to try AGAIN sometime to make sure I can see how it works .

Thing 17. Task 1 Google maps
The things that one can pick up from the computer are remarkable. It just needs the know-how and the time. I'm sure there's millions of things that I could be interested in, but there are other things that need to be done rather than sitting at the computer "playing"!
These are remarkable. Being able to zoom in and presumably download pictures that people have put onto the programme since these had the names of the photogtaphers attached.

According to Google maps.
It will take me 19 minutes to drive the 6.7 miles from home to Addenbrookes Hospital (that's according to a quiet time of day when there are no traffic jams or roadworks!)
It will take me I hour 49 minutes to walk that distance.
This is about right.
A few years ago when the snow came down and the traffic stood still. I walked and sometimes slithered. Leaving the hospital at about 8 p.m. I got home just after 10 p.m.

Thing 10(3) Social bookmarking: Delicious
It is interesting how you can find different articles. However, an awful lot of time is wasted while you're browsing. I can't get away from the feeling that I am wasting time which is valuable. However, I suppose that each time I add a "print screen" - I am knocking the method of doing it into my non-computer mind!
We have just had an exhibition at Emmanuel Church, Cambridge on the Universe.
We went to the Observatory on Madingley Road, Cambridge and had a very interesting talk. I have been cutting out articles from newspapers and magazines for some years and have put them together into a display file which was on show at the exhibition.
The above image was taken from the list of articles on "Delicious" which also had an RSS feed
which I will add to the appropriate section.

Thing 8.Browser Bookmarks
My Favourites are more organised now. I've tried to copy most of them (not my personal ones!), but they're not very well arranged on the page. I tried left, centre and right - but it didn't work out. Anyway - they're there. At least I think I've got the hang of doing a screen print and saving it to my documents and then uploading it. It would have been easier if I could have done a complete list at one time rather than having to keep moving down the list and doing small sections.

The lady came in to pick up the books that she understood were supposed to have been left for her.
Jenny gave her my list for her to go and collect them from the shelves.

Interesting being able to change the wording. It will take some getting used to, but will probably have plenty of practice on the Staff Manual.

Thing 14: I Pod touch
It is a good idea. The map page was excellent....... "show me the way to go home, I'm tired and I want to go to bed.......". It drew a line to show me the way I needed to go to get home. It told me it would take me 90 minutes. Sounds about right from when I walked home from here when the snow came down!
Took me an awfully long time to enter my details to get onto libair. My nails are too long and it took me a while to find out how to hit the keys and make sure I got the right key. Hit sharply and it works better. Don't know if I would have the patience to get onto it regularly - I prefer a full size keyboard.
I've got the internet on my phone. I'll practice on that.

Thing 3
I got here! I don't really know if I want to be here though - I'm not really a computer person. I use the computer when I need to find something out.
I'm about 3 weeks behind with "23 things", but I'll get there eventually.
There were a few things in the introductory session that interested me. The "Wonder wheel" seemed a good idea to help me to see alternative words for searches. Widgets were available and very varied. It all takes too much time when I feel I should be working. Perhaps this is work - investigation can be a good thing - but enthusiasm for it can be low - if it helps in the future I will be pleased
